Ok..Libby had her full body Xray last night and it was pretty boring really. However we did discover that it appears Libby has Hip Dysplasia. I have heard of this in Maincoons but not in Persians. I suppose it isn't unheard of but can be genetic. I didn't keep anything from Libby over the years and honestly has broken my heart that I never did but now all I can say is that there is a reason I never was able to -- maybe this was it?

Whatever the case, my girl is in good shape and feeling like herself again. Seems coming down to 1/2 a tab once a day has really changed her...she seems to feel a lot better now. The echo was also clear -- nothing alarming at this time but we will repeat in a few months to be sure as pred can do some crazy things to the body. No signs of hypertension at this time either. So now we really wait. Libby is to finish her meds as prescribed and once she is done I am to watch for any backsliding in her behavior and notify Sara. Basically this is looking like it was a stroke with an unknown cause. But we will know more when she comes off the steroid.

Well I am so glad that the xray was clear. Hugs to you and our girl, Libs. You are such a good Momma.

I'm glad you were bored with the x-ray! ;)

As for hip dysplasia, Persians are one of the few cat breeds that can have it. And honestly, I have wondered/worried that Clarissa might have it based on the way she walks, lays, and her anatomy. (Her butt is HUGE compared the width of her shoulders.)

Glad to read that Libby is doing better. I have never really even thought about hip dysplasia in cats however have in dogs/breeds. I hope that Libby will do Ok once off the pred. and her findings will allow her to continue to live a happy healthy life.
btw Lola (my mini schnauzer) has this incredibly big butt.. she's got small shoulders. She does have a problem with one leg and limps tho I was told she had a partially torn anterior crutiate ligament on her right rear leg. she's skipped/hopped on this leg since one year of age (and is currently 9 years old and will be 10 in June).

HA HA Kira -- we do call her "Libs" or "Ibby"...or "Ibbs" She is very precious to me that is for sure. Don't take that wrong, I love all my furkids...but Lib has a special place.

Linda -- I told Sara that I had noticed Libby walking almost like she has a corncob up her up butt (sorry for the mental picture there) but chalked it up to her size. She is NOT tiny by any stretch! And to be honest I think her current weight is perfect for her...just a hair under 10lbs...because at 11.5lbs she waddled when she walked. Now we think the hip is why. Poor girl. So she gets Dosaquin now to help her.

I am so glad LIbby is doing better and her xray were boring, but that is always good. Bluie was dx with hip dxyplasia at 5 mo, I noticed sometimes she walked funny or had a lip.. just slight, the xray showed she had it in her left hip.. in the past two years due to her age it bothers her more, arthritis is in it.. so glad Libby is doing better.
