Now that I have her eyes figured out I'm ready to figure out more other things.

It seems like everyday when I brush her I pull out so much fur. If I roll it up it would be the size of a marble. Is that too much? I use a bristle type brush from walmart. Is that a problem?

I got her last week at 8 weeks old and the day I got her she had a bath. When can I give her another one? I'm anxious to see how she will do! How often does she need one after that?

Since she's not a show cat, I'd only bath her once a month or so,
the condition of her fur will let you know.
I only do Dolly every couple of months, sometimes going longer.

I suggest you get a Greyhound comb...it's really the only type of comb
that will get in all that long fur, especially as she gets older and gets
her adult coat.
You can get them online at most pet supply companies.
They run around $30 or so.
Just do a search on The Original Greyhound Comb, and you will see
what it looks like.

Purrs,
Joan

A brush is not going to do the job when she gets her adult coat. The greyhound comb is the way to go. I got mine at Jade River General Store on line for about $25. The owner is an exotic/Persian breeder so she is good at answering questions about products pertaining to grooming them. She has made suggetions for my guys a couple of times - and she was right both times.
If you aren't showing bathing isn't required as often, but I would do it often enough so she doesn't freak out when you do bath her. Just a few things to remember when you do bath her: Comb her completely - no tangles should be left.Trim her nails first! In the bath/sink where you bath her, keep her facing away from you. Get everything you are going to need together first, before you get the cat. Talk to her quietly while doing it - I find it keeps some of mine calmer. I usually cut all my shampoos in half with water - it is difficult to rinse full strength out at times. Rinse until you think you don't need to rinse any longer and then rinse some more! Good luck and please post some photos of her after her bath.

Bluie stays clean a long time, her fur does not get to oily, I usually bath her about 3 or 4 times a year depending on her coat. If she gets dirty than more. I use brush, and greyhound comb..

Thank you everyone. How much hair is normal to be in the brush when I'm done? I'll def look into the comb too!

I did go ahead with her bath today. It didn't go too bad. I did gather everything like lynda said. I made dish water with dawn because I don't have soap yet. She did really well and hardly fought. I used a toothbrush on her face and she liked it. I wrapped her in my daughters old baby towel and then blow dried her on low, making sure I didn't burn her but she hated it! I got really clawed up during that step. I even took a break with her and then she was shivering so I went back at it. My hubby suggested turning our heated blanket for her. I laid her on the bed with a baby blanket over her and she stayed there for over two hours. She really liked that.

She is really looking good now!

She IS angelic.

I'd bathe your kitten every week. Especially since she's white. My last Persians lived until 19 & 20, had a bath every week and never got dried out or knotted. Being bathed often made it easy to keep them in coat their entire lives. Bathing is the key to easy grooming, imo.

If bathed weekly daily combing should only take 5 minutes. Very little hair should come out each time, except during shedding season. If a handful of hair is coming out - you're probably using the wrong tool.

When you get the metal combs - get two sizes.
These aren't the ones I use but are an example: http://tinyurl.com/263jaod

Also, I recommend a certain type of pin brush: available from petedge.com - it's worth it because it's hard to find pin brushes that don't have "balls" at the top of the spikes. If you get a pin brush, make sure you get a "large". http://www.petedge.com/catalog/product. ... ctId=43794

All I ever use are two metal combs, and eye "makeup brush" (without anything on it) and the pin brush.
I use water in a mist bottle to cut down on static when combing. Not too much water, just an occasional spritz.

The eye brush is to fluff up the little short hairs on her face, forehead & ears.
The pin brush is mostly for fluffing and the fun of it.
Since I spend effort keeping the cat immaculate, I believe I deserve the fun that the brush provides (even though it's not really necessary).

I agree that bathing weekly makes the grooming easier .My boys that I show get bathed twice a week and I only have to comb them out before the bath.

We use the term dollface to describe face type.
You sweetie has the little longer nose than what the show
type cat would have.
You did a wonderful job on her bath!
Something else you may want to consider purchasing
down the road is a pet blow dryer such as a Metro.
It sure cuts down the drying time!

Purrs,
Joan
