Hello everyone, Im the proud owner of a Persian kitty who has been great for the past 8 or so months but lately she's started peeing in 3 or 4 different spots. First it started when she would go into my girlfriends plant pot and dig up the soil and pee in there, we finally got her to stop peeing in there but now she's been peeing in other spots. We keep her litter box spotless and change it every 3-5 days and of course scoop it daily multiple times. We moved her box closer to where she is peeing and that seemed to help for a few days now she's found another spot! She's about one year old and spayed. Has anyone experienced this?!

Please take the cat to the vet and tell the vet what she is doing. You need to specify that the cat is urinating outside the box so that the vet knows what to look for. Peeing outside the litter box is the #1 symptom of urinary tract problems!

If you use a covered litter box, take off the lid. Many cats refuse to use covered boxes.

Make sure you thoroughly clean all old urine spots on the rug and elsewhere. If she can smell the old urine she will think that place is a good place to pee. Use a flourescent black light to find old urine and treat all old spots with an enzymatic cleanser.

Try putting a plastic carpet runner upside down on the places they like to pee....most cats don't like to walk on the "spikes" so they will avoid the covered spots.

Put something real smelly where she likes to pee...most cats hate the smell of citrus, so try
putting citrus scented air freshener or orange peels or citrus potpourri where she pees.

Off to the vet, they will check her out and see if she has an infection as the peeing everyowhere is always a symptom and that is the best 1st place to start looking for the problem. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Maybe she doesn't like the litter you're using. Perhaps a change after you do your trip to the vet.

I agree that it should be off to the vet to see if there is a health issue first.
You should add a second box. Some don't like to pee and pooh in the same box.
Clean the spots she pees in thoroughly and get a feliway spray and spray the area.
Hope you solve this problem soon. You have a gorgeous kitty there!!!

I just took my 1 yr old male to the vet for the same issue and they said he definitely has some blockage and possibly stones. I am now just awaiting a verdict. Had I waited any longer he could have had kidney failure. Not an issue you want you "wait out".

My Diva started doing that at 1 1/2 yrs, she started peeing on my rug. I called the vet and was told if there were any new animals in the house or around. I had a stay cat that started coming around the patio that I started petting. I stopped petting and paying attention to the other cat and she stopped peeing on the rug. The vet said there is a spray that you can buy in pet supply stores you can spray in the areas that will not harm her but will keep them from peeing in the area. Hope this helps.
