Sink?
Tub?
Is there warm water in the sink already?
Do you run the water, do you use a bucket.
Please tell.
I am getting ready for a frist bath at home.

I use the laundry tub/sink, it's deep which means no bending
over for me like I used to do when I used the bathtub.

I don't put water in the sink.
I attach a spray hose to the tap.
Make sure my water is running at a comfortable temperature,
then I place Dolly in the tub and wet her all over with the spray hose.
I have my shampoo ready, most times I put it in a container, add water to
it then pour it on her coat.
I will use "straight" shampoo for trouble areas, like her under her chin, and her front
paws that get the stain from her washing her face.

I rinse forever, another shampoo, then rinse forever again.
I have a facecloth handy for doing her face and inside the ear.

Purrs,
Joan

I do Dylan in the bath, I get in there with him. He just sits here and I put the water over him then the shampoo and then rinse him off and still he will just sit there. I lift him with my hand under his front paws to do his underside. I let the water out before rinsing him and the water runs orange at first, when it runs clear I know he is well rinsed. After all this I wrap him in a towel and take to be dried. I rub him to with a fresh towel before starting with the hair dryer and of course he still sits there and purrs. But then, this is Dylan, Dana is a little more challenging and although I use the same technique I have to hold on tight.

How do I wash my kitties?.... carefully ;)

I get in the shower with them. We have a seat in the shower, with one of those shower heads on the long cord. I sit with them, with the door closed. Then go to town. :)
Hanumen has been washed about every other month since he was a kitten, so he has no real problem with it other than "ugh, I wanna do something else". Houdini, who needs it more, hates it. :(

I have never washed a cat and cannot wait to see how Jasmine reacts, I have been thinking about washing her. She is fairly clean but she has this smell I cannot stand from her previous home.

What shampoo do you use?

I use a deep sink with a spray hose. Just put the cat in it, wet down with the sprayer, shampoo, rinse rinse, and rinse some more. Use a shampoo for cats or baby shampoo. If the coat is oily you can use a diluted Dawn dish detergent. Whatever you use, rinse really well! The more you do it the more accustomed to bathing they will be (with a few exceptions such as my Maggie).

Here's my routine - once a week, every week.
She never has knots - but if she did, they'd have to be combed out before bathing.

Squirt Dawn dish detergent into kitchen sink & fill with lukewarm water. (I never use Goop, I can't stand the smell.)
Lower cat in-she's gentle and doesn't fight.
Gently squish suds through coat.
Add some Dawn directly to three spots - by her ears, on her chest (armpits) and underneath between her back legs (crotch).
Gently suds those 3 areas.
Let water drain.
Start water running at lukewarm temperature and rinse cat with sprayer.

Second sudsing with a cat shampoo (I rotate between three or four I like). I dilute in half and gently suds.
At this time I leave suds on the body as I do face.

Shampoo Face: w/a tearless shampoo, I use a super soft infant's toothbrush and dipping it into a saucer of diluted shampoo I wash the face.
Using a washcloth I rinse the face (this takes longer than anything because I have to be so freaking careful not to get water in the nose).
I keep going until I'm sure the face is rinsed.

Next, I rinse the entire body with sprayer.

Last bathing step: fill sink with clean water and lower cat in until coat is floating around. Play with coat for a while ("floating the coat")

Lift cat, squeeze out water, towel her and blow dry with a pet dryer that doesn't get hot. I blow dry with my hands until she's mostly dry than comb a little bit, then use a pinbrush a little.

In between all the steps I thank her for being good and indulging me in my compulsion to keep her clean.

In total, it takes no more than 45 minutes.
