Yes steroids can cause some pretty weird behavior. Lola (my dog) was unbelievable on them. I mean I'll never again have her get steroids unless there's no other option. Myself.. even me with epidural steroid injections.. I'm a different person. I cannot have any more.. probably a good thing. Hope Libby is Ok.. kittybonks from Alaska and Winston (senior kittybonks so very mild)

Heather -- Emily did the circling thing about a month before she died. The pupil on the inside of the circle was enlarged. She never lost her appetite. In her case it was from high blood pressure from CRF. It gradually improved over 5-8 days, but it was hard to watch. She was 19+ at the time so we adopted a wait and see treatment.

As for prednisone, it depends on the dosage. If it was a shot, then effects can occur in 8-12 hours. Orally, it's 12-24 hours. But if the dosage is moderate, then 48 hours is usually the clear "works/doesn't work" line.

(((HUGS))) to you and Libby

No circling last night at all. Dr. P said she thought she was not holding her left eye as open as the other but I honestly don't see a difference. She has HUGE eyes and they were both open and pupils looked normal to me. I am noticing tho that her blue eyes have a slight green tinge to them but no signs of jaundice anywhere else...I pointed this out as well but we know how that went.

Still nothing from Andrew. At this point I will wait this out because chances are that she may start turning again...but will make an appointment well in advance to see Amy or Sara only. Libby's behavior last night is still "off" but back to what it was before the circling started. Maybe I just don't want to believe this could be true either. Whatever the case we will only go back to see Amy or Sara as I want someone to talk to me about this and be less matter of fact about it.

I'm glad she stopped circling.

With Emily it was the pupil size. I'm not at all sure why how much the eye is open has much to do with this, unless Dr. P is suggesting major problems. If that were the case (major stroke that effected the eye lid muscles), I'd expect to see other things like limping or drooling also.

Jaundice shouldn't change the pupil color -- it's the whites that change to yellowish. Pupil color change can be from blood pressure, infection, etc.

Exactly Linda!!!! Which is why I had pointed it out. When River went Jaundice on us EVERYTHING was yellow and his eyes were normally green but they even changed to a puke yellow! The insides of his ears, the pink of his nose, his paw pads -- EVERYTHING (including the whites of his eyes). So I know that just because the cornia is greenish isn't indicating Liver issues but is indicating something could possibly be going on. I understand fully that with age in the Himmies that the blue eye color can increase and get better or it can go sour...so it isn't a definant sign there is a problem but one that I think should be paid attention to all the same...and now combined with this circling thing and her being "off"...I at least think it would warrent some comment to acknowlege my concern. But that is just me...LOL

When Mandu got sick, the vet recommended exploratory surgery and he wanted $1500 in advance. I told him I didn't have it but wanted to work out a payment program with him. He told me just to put my boy down (he was only 3) because I obviously couldn't afford him. I was devastated. I got the phone book out and started calling vets. I explained my situation and found one willing to work with me....sight unseen! I took Mandu in and the first thing he did was kiss Mandu on the top of his little head and I was hooked! He saved his life and let me make weekly payments.

When I got the reminder card for the first vet that it was time for his checkup, I sent it back with a note....ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!! Never heard from them again, LOL

OH Cat, what a mess! You know you made the right decision to walk out and never go back. I too understand that a vet must receive payment but there is a time and place for working with someone and your situation is one of them.

Heather -- I don't know why the vet won't address your questions/concerns. Bloodwork is the first thing I would request and expect, even if I knew it was cancer (to see how far along it was). I guess the big 'problem' is the vet's ego -- if a client suggests something, then I, the vet, don't know everything and am not the big kahuna.
