I never gave my kittys a bath before cause they don't even like being picked up. If I start bathing maybe every 2 weeks will it be something they get used to?

If you like long enough.:lol::lol:

Seriously, if your cats don't like to be handled, you need to take the bathing very slowly at first or they will quickly learn to hate it. Remember, people that raise show cats begin bathing them as tiny kittens so they are used to it. You, presumably, are talking about bathing a cat who, if it was bathed before, probably will think you are trying to drowned it so it will fight tooth and nail. The only way around this is to do simple, slow behavior modification with lots of treats and get the cat so it doesn't fight so much. It can be done, but with an adult cat, it's not going to happen overnight.

I guess my questions are (1) why do you want to bathe the cat every 2 weeks and (2) do you thoroughly comb the cat daily?

They are brushed but not everyday. The are not matted at all. But they don't like to be brushed either. I have to go in the bathroom and close the door inorder to brush them. They dontbite or scratch they just don't like it and always try to get away. I want to bath them cause they do not look as fluffy and white when I first got them. I figured a bath will do the trick. But I want them to get used to having a bath so I figured reapting every 2 weeks or monthly they will become used to it.

I would worry bathing that often may give them dry skin? I am not sure just never heard of kitties getting bathed that often. I would suggest just take it easy and dont do anything that stresses them too much. If they are house pets and you are not showing them...they don't really need to be as fluffy and perfect as they were on day 1 right? As long as they are happy and health? When I bathe mine I get in the bath with them and let them sit on my lap and use a cup to douse them with water gently....this way they are not really much IN the water and it allows them to not freak out.

No mats -- that's good because if you bathe a cat with mats, you get more mats.

Depending on what is causing the "no so whiteness", a bath may or may not help. Some stains require hair trimming.

Jen -- I once tried your technique with a kitty. I ended up with a wet and soapy cat draped around my neck, screaming in my ear!!!:lol::lol:

LOL Linda yeah...I recommend extreme caution when trying that method for the first time! I know how it can end up as I have been in the same situation on days when miss Muffins was in a worse mood than she let on before her bath. I had some nice scars from her climbing up my chest.

Usually my 2 persians are usually pretty laid back and it works...I always have one arm around them to avoid them trying to climb me and it usually ends up ok.

I would Never attempt this with Gordon. I gave him a bath once as a kitten...had to because he had been living outside and in the crate which I caught them he sat in sardines and then his own poop so you can imagine how badly he smelled...now i dont even have to worry about him because he keeps himself immaculate. I always tell my girls...look at Gordon and his big pants and he never gets a poo on his pants! How come you girls cant be more like Gordie?! LOL

If I can make a suggestion - try getting them used to combing daily before trying to get them used to bathing. Brushing isn't going to do the trick if they are Persians. Bathing often doesn't necessarily dry the skin out. My boys are bathed twice a week to keep them in show condition. I just use a conditioner when needed.

I have a couple that I use sometimes. One from the UK - Vitacoat Vitone and I also use Eqyss Premier leave in spray.
