My MIL just noticed Duchess is a boy!!!! I'm so upset right now! I wanted a girl. I told everyone she was a crazy cat lady! I can't believe I never noticed! We have had her for two weeks almost!

While that may be a bit of a shock does it make that much difference really. "He" is gorgeous and looks to be a real sweet heart. Have a good chuckle, cry or whatever then go give your boy a hug and kiss and start looking for a new name :cat:He is still the same loving kitty you have been enjoying for the last two weeks and I am sure the shock will wear off pretty quickly.

I want you to know the same thing happened to me. I specifically asked for a female kitten, drove 5 hours to pick up a 14 week old female. I didn't bother to check, I wouldn't even be able to tell if I did look.

I was upset too, I sought a female for many reasons, the most important being I thought a she would fit into our pride better.

By the time I figured it out, we loved him too much to send him back. Other health problems arose and we still love him many hundreds of dollars later.

Check him out, he is fabulous. My daughter calls him the transgender kitten, Matilda became Michelangelo. Fortunately, he gets along with the male already in the house.
I don't know what to say to you. I just hope all is well in your home.
hugs
Paula

Take a deep breath. I adopted two male cats, rescues, twins from the same litter we believe, and they are the sweetest and most affectionate boys one could imagine. Heck, they even purr when the vet examines them! I recall that the woman who ran the rescue shelter from which I adopted my boys at least once sexed a cat incorrectly. I guess it can happen.

You can call him Duke instead of Duchess.

Same thing happened to me but I had him for a couple years. The vet never even said anything, lol

It shouln't matter by now. He, she it's your furbaby. Just be the good loving mom you can be. Your already in love with your baby! If you choose to, maybe change his name?

I can understand being upset when you pay so much for your pet and don't get what you had expected. BUT now you have had him and i'm sure love him to pieces...would you really want to change anything? :)He is very beautiful!!!!

Oh I can understand being shocked and it sort of changes your relationship with the cat maybe...I know I feel different about my boy than my girls...not love wise but my boy is my boy!!! I dunno how to explain it lol.

But seriously...we just had cold emergencies in First Aid and I learned that 1st degree frostbite is actually called frostnip...I immediately thought if I ever get a white kitty I am so naming it frostnip. You can steal my name if you want!!! FROSTNIP!!!!

This happened to me with a Persian kitten I rescued out of terrible conditions. The woman said it was a boy. I do rescue and have seen the, um, private parts of dozens of kittens. I did not even look. It wasn't until we went for a vet check that I discovered Cyrus was a Cyra. :P:P

the shock is over and now you can settle down and enjoy your little man, easy change with the name, Dutchess to Dutch... I can imagine how you felt. it is like when we want a little girl ourselves and oops its a boy. He is a gorgeous kitty and I am sure you love him dearly. he says, but mommy, they told me I was a girl, how do you think I feel now.. good grief I have been squating to wee, now I have to learn all over, sorry, I just was thinking how he felt.. I am sure he will be come a big part of our life and maybe down the road you can get him a sister..
