Dutch is a great name and he is really cute :heart:Boys can be as affectionate as females and if you loved him as a girl why not continue to love him as a boy?Nothing has really changed,it's kind of a shock :obut I bet he will be your special boy pretty soon ;)

Call him Dutch eh ?
(that's my native language : Dutch)

I had the same with my little rescue
His name was Casper, I liked it, he looked like a little white, friendly ghost to me too.
The shelter where my little "friendly ghost" ;) was rescued, was at the other end of Belgium, so I started chatting with people of Caspers' shelter. After about 3 weeks I got a message....it turned out Casper was a GIRL, but she was soo terrified and wild her rescuers hadn't even dared to recheck on her sex till she was adopted.I had fallen in love with that small, abused, fierce looking kitten, and I decided to rename her Praline.
My Praline was NOT a kitling, she was very small due to inbreeding, she was 5 years when I adopted her; she was 7 when she was put to sleep, she was very very sick. Praline died in my arms. Her last 6 months were sweet and sad too : she finally accepted that humans can be good to animals, she greeted me every night when I came home from work, she purred and wanted lovvies.

I know your little guy will be as sweet as candy, I have 2 males and 1 female and they all love me and express their love to me every day.

Of course I agree that you'll love him anyway...but...that doesn't mean you should let the breeder off the hook.

Anyone who breeds cats and can't accurately sex a kitten (or lies about kittens) should stop breeding immediately.

I'd call her and gently tell her you want some of the money back.

P.S. Neutering your cat will now be less expensive AND a less traumatic surgery, so you're in luck on that score.

:)

While I do agree a breeder should be able to easily sex their kittens accurately and perhaps should have double checked the kitten's gender before placing him as a female, why should the breeder be expected to refund a portion of the money paid for the kitten? UNLESS the breeder asks for a higher pet price for female kittens than male kittens, of course. If this is the case, then yes, I would definitely be contacting the breeder ASAP and politely ask for the difference to be refunded. An exchange for a female kitten would also resolve this issue but it sounds as if sugar* is not willing to give up her sweet little boy now. :cat:

I have never understood why some breeders seem to have so much trouble in determining the gender of their babies. Personally, I find the best time to sex kittens is shortly after they are born. I've only been wrong once in 10+ years of breeding and discovered my mistake within a few days. On September 5, 2008... the day my "Uno" was born... I originally thought she was a he.

...because mistakes such as that really need punishment. I have a strong suspicion that money will REALLY matter to that woman and EVEN mentioning it will make her panic & take the situation seriously.

Imo, of course.

Yes Neutering is less expensive but god forbid there are ever any urinary blockages! That cancels out that price savings pretty quick lol.

I love boy cats...but it was a consideration for me when I got 2 girls. My boy I have because I rescued him and became attached. I do love him and its nice to have a boy kitty around with all his mushyness and love and antics....but if you wanted to buy a girl and get a boy that is a pretty big deal.

IF it was a mistake. However, how do we know it was?? I know of a few cases where breeders have tried to pawn off a male kitten as a female onto unsuspecting pet buyers, thinking they couldn't tell the difference between the two. Believe me, it does happen. If this is the case, do you honestly think sugar* is going to get anywhere with that woman by asking for a partial refund? I don't think so.

Just my personal opinion.
