I have been trying to trap a DMH Tabby since November, she looks so much like Cheshires she could be his twin.

The minute she see's the trap she runs. The Crazy Lady refuses to stop feeding them on the day's I put the traps out. One day I came up behind her and watched her start to let a cat out of a trap until she saw it was a raccoon and not a cat   I hadn't trapped any cats from January thru Easter weekend, thats when I started making my bait more attractive than the crazy ladys food.

Before I started trapping Mama Kitty would let me pet her, after I started trapping she would keep a distance of 2 to 3 feet.

I caught her yesterday!!!!

That crazy lady needs to understand that you're trying to help the kitties by stopping their breeding cycle. It's too bad you can't make her understand this! Good for your persistence; it paid off!!!

Dan, I'm not Rhona but can answer this. After live trapping, you take them to a vet who either volunteers his services or, at least, gives a reduced rate to spay/neuter; some even give some shots. They clip the top of the left ear to indicate they've already been spay/neutered. You then take them back to where they were trapped and release them. (TNR means Trap, Neuter, Release) The person who does this generally will care for them by setting up feeding stations.

As to whether there's a problem in Indiana, I can't say but the problem seems to be world-wide. We had a huge problem in the mobile home park where I lived in Phoenix. People just kick the kitties to the curb and expect them to fend for themselves. They breed and breed some more and if people like Rhona and Pat didn't step up, we'd be in a world of hurt. I actually lost my home over it a year ago so my involvement now has to be in donations only to my deep sadness.

Every caring animal lover needs to help with this problem!!!

(Okay... off the soapbox, Cat!!! )

Rhona good for you sweetie. Well done. :flower: :flower:

Yep it's a world wide problem many people don't see it. My best gf worked near an I industrial site where a colony if inbred feral cats lived 20+. She would feed them but could never trap. She fell in love with 3 babies and managed to catch 2 the one thàt got away was blind in one eye due to fights. She took the siblings girl & boy who would have mated to the vets where she had them desexed. She built an enclosure & they have the run of the rear garden

They are called monty and tiger they have become the smoochiest ferals. they will never meet their pedigree siblings as they could harbour feline luk or aids even though they are vaccinated now she won't take the risk.

So you see you can live in the richest or poorest suburb & people dônt care another reason to stop pet shops selling Undesexed cats. Sone people just live i the dark or maybe ubder rocks lol and are do self absorbed. We are the cause and until ppl are educated and governments stop out byb and pet shop pets not desexed it will never change Ok my rant over too

same here in Upper New York, we have spay and neuter RV clinics that go county to county now, we have vets that do it at a less cost sometimes free.
I have been doing catch and release for about 10 years. I will live trap them, Dr K does blood work, to make sure no disease that they will die of, then she spays or neuter's, if the cat is social, she keeps them and finds them a forever home, if not they get their shots and I release them in the same area I trapped them, since they are already set up in a community some where near by. .. it is very sad at how many we have in the wild

I live by the beach and have some friends that do TNR for feral kitties that live by the bluff on the beach which keeps getting shaved down re folage that they could live in as well as by the jetty and an area called Shoreline Village where the marina is downtown and plenty of wharf rats and cats to take care of the wharf rats. Anyway the only way I help out is with food basically tho my friends are part of a community effort that sets traps and takes the cats to Vets (one is my Vet) and then sets them back out for release here. There are so many beautiful cats and I tell you if I could live free by the beach I would too so I commend anyone involved in this effort (past present and/or future)!
