Yes, of course! Sorry, I don't mean to seem bossy, but I did tons of research when Puffy got sick as she would only eat fish flavored cat foods. I find she will eat the chicken/beef flavors now, but I have to put them on her nose, because I don't think she likes the smell.

due to Bluie's dry skin issue , Dr K, suggested some of the tuna oil or little tuna twice a week or any dark fish she may like. Tuna alone as others have said is not good .. but at the age of 16 or 17, I say, if they like it , let them enjoy it in certain amts.. Joan, it is hard to change our cats minds when they want something, good luck Pat

I didn't get any special food this weekend as my back went out Friday so I had trouble getting out and about. Then GERD was killing my tum half of yesterday so long story short Winston and Alaska had a great weekend lazing about w/Mom. Both were eating pretty well Saturday and even yesterday Winston was eating well tho has ended up with gooey poops again and Alaska wouldn't eat a thing yesterday UNTIL I put the tuna out. This morning she ate some of her regular food tho.

Hopefully today I can get out to see if I can get something tuna flavored for Alaska that still is OK for a senior cat as she has her vomiting periods and neither cat can any longer eat regular cat foods. Even their kibble is for seniors.

I'm going to weigh in. I agree that a fish food like Weruva with tuna in it might be the way to go. I will be the first to say that fish is not good for our cats -- it IS hard on the kidneys -- that is true. Any type of fish can and does cause bladder issues such as crystals and stones because it does make drastic changes to the PH of the urine and fish raises the ash content of the food. Even something stinky like Friskies canned might be good to try...or mixing tuna juice into a can of wet like Friskies or even Weruva would entice her to eat something else. She needs the taurine.

Honestly, in regard to Joan's concerns about Dolly's Whiska addiciton, a poor quality wet food is better than most high quality dry foods...so I say if she likes it...let her have it mom. ;)

As for Alaska tho, she needs the taurine from cat food diets because without it she can develope heart issues...go blind...add addional issue to her kidney problem...the list goes on. And if it takes a fishy smelling food to get her to eat then so be it...but try to wean her away from the tuna if you can. Fishy canned cat food under this circumstance is better than tuna and we all know Alaska needs to eat.

My boys favourite condiment is wild Alaskan salmon oil -- one spritz on every dish. It is another way to entice them to eat something they are shying away from. And their coats have become sooooo silky.

Both great points. Puffy only likes things that smell like fish. So I'll mix a spoonful of fish flavored food into mostly chicken food and she will eat it. I will also put some of the chicken food on her nose. She likes it once she tastes it.

And for me, personally, salmon oil gives Puffy the most horrendous poops. I haven't tried it on Chunk. Barbara - does it take some time for their system to adjust? She loves the stuff but holy diarrhea.

Kira, I use the Samon oil in my raw mix...and I must agree that if you use the "recomended dosage" right off the bat you will have loose stools. I use only a 1/4 of what it says and slowly work up from there...and I haven't had an issue. You just have to take it slow. It took me two weeks to get Cas on the Salmon Oil without issue....now he does fine.

It did not take time to adjust, but like what Marclay wrote above, I did start with half the recommended amount and only once a day.

Funny how different cats have different responses to foods. I can give Bogart a spoonful of plain Greek or Balkan yogurt as a treat and he loves it. Humphrey won't touch it. I tried putting it in his mouth, but the next round of poops seemed softer. I now trust his judgment on yogurt. Yogey for Bogey only.
