That's no small praise from Alon, by the way. He has some gorgeous Persians that he shows and breeds.

Today I went downtown on the metro (subway) and, on the way back, I saw a girl toting her pink suitcase on wheels. Emblazoned on one side was a Hello Kitty symbol with her pink bow. I thought immediately of Persia. She must have been their inspiration.

Hi All!

All of your compliments put HUGe smiles :D on mine and my fiance's faces!! I am so glad I found this formum as we feel so loved  here. I know I will have many questions for Persia as time goes on as I have NEVER owned a Persian and the last time I owned a cat, I was a child (still a child at 29, right!?) ( :

One thing I find hilarious though I was wondering if it is super common or if there are changes to be made to fix the issue - Persia, like Darla, takes her food out of her food bowl and makes a HUGE mess! I think its funny and not so much an "issue" at all - but does anyone recommend anything or should we just expect it? We always have with Darla!

The other thing - she doesn't know how to drink her water without getting it ALL over her cute little face! We have a bowl that continually has water running, for her and Darla and though they have the same face, Darla never has that issue.

OH yes, one more thing! We were given 3 recommendations for cleaning the stain area around her eyes. One involved a human saline solution (from the vet), one just water and a washcloth and the other was baby shampoo and cotton balls. What is the best/most correct option - perhaps something else?

OTHER THAN THAT: TODAY IS PERSIA'S 1 WEEK ANNIVERSARY AT HER "FURREVER" HOME! Our 8y/o niece is spending the night with us tonight and can't wait to play with her "fur-cousins" ( :

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR LOVE AND CARE!!

Amy, Davin, Darla :paw: , Persia :cat: & Cap'n Jack Sparrow :fish:

I had a wonderful reply and then POOF! it was gone.

Food mess -- Unfortunately, it's the shape of the face that causes the problems. Depending on the food, the problem is more or less. With my cats, kibble and dry treats are the worse, wet canned food is better, and raw food produces no mess. Except the raw with Wendy, who has a huge underbite. Kira solved that one with an oval dish with one side higher, so when Wendy pushes the food around, it falls back into the dish!

Water mess -- Again, it's a physiological problem. You can, in theory, train a cat to use a guinea pig water bottle, and some people who show do this. There are also a few small and expensive water bowls. Most people just live with it.

Eye mess -- There are 2 problems -- stains and daily eye care. The reddish stains are from a yeast and are hard to remove with just water. EyeEnvy is a popular product that will remove the staining. Once the stain is gone and for daily cleaning, use water, saline solution (preservative free contact lens solution is fine), or a homemade salt solution to gently whipe the eye area with a make-up pad or wash cloth. I personally would never use any shampoo right around the eyes -- too hard to rinse, too much of a risk for eye damage (even baby shampoo).

And congrats on the 1 week anniversary!!!

We just love having you and Persia here! So welcome! And I'm only 25, so you will fit right in!! (we can be children together :) )

The eating - she will probably always be a mess. I have one that is a total mess (Chunk) and one that eats like a princess (Puffy Puffy Princess)

Water - A lot of us here have made our own water fountains. It helps my babies cut down on water messes and wet ruffs. If you want instructions, I'd be happy to post them. Costs about $10 and sweet Darla can use it also.

Eyes - The saline solution by the vet should be just fine. A tsp of salt in a cup of hot water? It works well. I just use a warm washcloth on my babies' eyes, but you can get a product called Eye Envy that many people here use as well.

I just showed my hubby the before and after pictures and the picture of Persia and Darla in their matching bows. He loved them and laughed out loud at the "twins". :apple:

So my niece came over to stay with us yesterday - I was hoping she would sleep in today (Sunday morning) but NOPE she was up around 6:30 :( She came in and got Persia and Darla to play with her then I finally got up around 8:00. After we all had breakfast (while uncle Davin was sound asleep, still is, err), we sat down to watch cartoons. I looked at my chaise and this is what I found!
MY LIL SPOONERS! :D
