Persia is absolutely adorable! As others have stated what a transformation! I'm so glad to read that your heartstrings were tugged at on that fateful date you saw her and she was rescued and brought to her new forever home w/you n hub. Anyone can see what love has done for her!

My female Persian Alaska used to weigh 8lbs tho she's now a senior and weighs almost 6lbs as does Winston (he used to weigh 11lbs in his heyday/youth).

Parsia and Darla are just adorable!! Every picture is nicer than the other :-)

As for food mess - well... actually with my babies I have found that dry food is the least messy, but yes, they spread the kibble around, and it's our job to clean that up LOL. We feed Orijen which is grain free! with a bit of raw it's super nutrition.

As for water. In my cattery I use bottle babies - look here - www.bottlebabies.com you have these stad bottles in many sizes and they are great! No more wet ruffs! It takes a while to get them used to it if they are used to drink from a bowl, but once they get a hang of it, it's really the cleanest solution,

When it comes to eyes, I breed Whites and High Whites... so trust me - I know what it means to clean a Persian face! and for show too!

I clean my cats faces twice a day with a %5 Boric Acid solution. Don't get alarmed by the name. Boric Acid in such low concentration is merely an anticeptic and is safe to use even 'in the eye'. Some saline solutions have it in them, and even some eye drops like Visine. It is really simple to make. One table spoon of Boric Acid in one cup of Boiling water, you let it cool in open air (not fridge) - and that's your cleansing solution. I just love it - if I keep the twice daily reutine... the cats are pristine!

I make the same solution, Alon...but was never
sure if it should be refrigerated for storing?
With just the one cat here, the mixture can last quite awhile,
and was never sure if it was safe just to keep it in with her grooming supplies
or if it should go in the fridge like EyeEnvy.
Your suggestion?

Purrs,
Joan

Thanks once again for all of the kind replies and warm welcomes!

I took Linda & Kira's advice (before I saw Alon's) and bought EyeEnvy about 3-4 days ago. So far it is working very well on Persia. Darla, not so much a difference, but I'll keep trying. So thank you for the recommendation!! Once it runs out, I will try Alon's recommendation.

THANKS AGAIN! I am slowly but surely figuring this "forum thing" out! My fiance finds it weird that I have never "joined" a forum before or know how to use it. Sorry, though I'm still in my twenties (unfortunately only for 1 more year), I am not super tech savvy but I do what I can. I'm sure there is an easier way to navigate through all the posts, but I haven't figured it out. I'll try to post more to others topics as time goes on, but I do apologize if I don't for a few months, as my time is thinning out more and more with swim lesson season crawling up (I run a private swim lesson program)!

Any advice I can get from any of you, definitely spew it my way! Cat related, not cat related, anything!

:D

Hi Joan,

Nope - I do not refregirate the Boric Acid solution, never. I keep it in a dedicated bottle with thier other grooming stuff.

I have a number of cats of course, and once cup of solution lasts me about 3 days to a week some times, but I do not refregirate.

It's really the best thing ever.

Eye Envy, by the way, works not bad... but I think the Boric Solution works a bit better. Also the Boric Solution is significantly cheaper than Eye Envy. Still, it's a good product - many like it.

Thanks for the reply, Alon.
I never used to store it when I was using
an empty bottle of store bought eye wash that I sterlized.
but I replaced it with 4 little glass bottles that I purchased
from the drug store (thought they would be easier to sterilize than
the plastic one).
So I would keep one in her grooming supplies until empty...the others in the fridge.
I'll just keep them all in her grooming supply case...

It is a great solution...and I don't know why I stray from it every once in awhile (Eye Envy).
I found the boric acid solution hint in a Cat Fancy many, many years ago. It must have
been an article on persians, you think?

Reminds me...I only have a half bottle left, time to make some more!

Purrs,
Joan

Weird, picky question: You start with 5% boric acid solution and then mix 1 tablespoon into 1 cup of water, right? It's not mix boric acid into water to get a 5% boric acid solution.

That is the recipe the rescue shelter uses when it grooms its Persians and Himmies. I should go back to using that.

Boric acid is a solid. I believe a tablespoon of the fine white crystals -- purchased at the drug store -- in a cup of water constitutes a 5% solution of boric acid. It is good to know that it can be kept for about three days.

Linda, I don't know about percentages.
The Boric Acid I have says Boric Acid NF on the lable.

Described as a topical antisptic and astringent for tempory relief of minor cuts and burns.
Up here, I have to ask the pharmacist for it, it's kept behind the counter..and I have been
asked what I will be using it for...

I follow the directions on the bottle

Add 1 TEASPOON to a glass
(8 0z) of warm, previously boiled water.
apply with an absorbent puff...

I guess once my EyeEnvy runs out, then I will try the Boric Acid
solution. Her eyes only get semi-bad when she pigs out on her
dry food then shoves her face in her water bowl. lol.
We are HIGHLY considering the "hamster-like" drinking container
that Alon mentioned. Though, pretty sure Darla wouldn't be
able to learn how to drink out of it - hmmm.
