Cat Kisses

Sandpaper kisses
on a cheek or a chin
that is the way
for a day to begin.

Sandpaper kisses
a cuddle and a purr
I have an alarm clock
that's covered in fur!

Last one...for now...appropriate for all of us that have rescued or adopted older babies. One of my favorites!!

This Old Cat

I'm getting on in years
My coat is turning gray.
My eyes have lost their luster,
My hearing's just okay.
I spend my day dreaming
Of conquests in my past,
Lying near a sunny window
Waiting for its warm repast.

I remember our first visit,
I was coming to you free,
Hoping you would take me in
And keep me company.
I wasn't young or handsome,
Two years I'd roamed the street.
There were scars upon my face,
I hobbled on my feet.

I could sense your disappointment
As I left my prison cage.
Oh, I hoped you would accept me,
And look beyond my age.
You too me out of pitty,
I accepted you without shame.
Then you grew to love me,
And I admit the same.

I have shared with you your laughter,
You have wet my fur with tears.
We've come to know each other
Throughout these many years.
Just one more hug this morning
Before you drive away,
And know I'll think about you
Throughout your busy day.

The time we've left together
Is a treasured time at that.
My heart is yours forever.
I Promise -- This old cat.

This is fun. All excellent poems. I did not know TS Elliot did a book of cat poems. The Nudge poem made me think of Puffy and the night stand.

I made poem when Elsa passed away and now reading all these poems I was inspired to make one for Tango. It is personal and certainly not god poetry but it is what my heart feels.

When Elsa had to go away
And left my heart with pain
I knew there would be someone else
To make me smile again.

I found her on this friendly site,
A cat who wanted love
So different from what I had
And yet so similar.

Her name is Tango and you know
She filled my life and heart.
She lets me hold her little feet
And talks to me a lot.

We share a home, our lives are good.
Together we will be
Until the day that one must part
I hope it won’t be me.

But even if it where the case,
I know she will be loved.
The friends she made
Will take her in and I’m at peace with that.

But now we sit and watch the moon,
We’re in the sun together.
All days are good as we go on
Forever and forever.
