We have had a couple of bad days, I hope today will be better. Lani was scheduled for a dental next Wed, they think she has at least one tooth that may be causing her pain and need to be pulled. We put her on Amoxicillin for a week prior to lessen any chance of infection going to her organs. Well one dose Thursday night and we ended up in the ER. She started throwing up at midnight and kept it up so a 4am off we went. They gave her fluids and told me to take her to my vet first thing so at 10 am we were back at the vets. She was one sick cat. We had a conference call with our homeopathic vet in California and she had us treat her with homepathics rather than drugs. So at noon I gave her a remedy and a half hour later she ate something and kept it down. No more vomit but I can tell she does not feel good. For some reason with this mouth problem she refuses to drink water or eat canned food. She will take a few bites of dry and then leave so it is a problem keeping her weight up and keeping her hydrated. We had to cancel the dental until we get her stable again. I am more than a little concerned about putting her out, she is so dang sensitive to everything. Amox was the only drug we could think of for dental issues that may not cause a reaction, guess we were wrong.

I'm sorry to hear Lani is having trouble. I think you have the right idea to get her stabilized before going in for dental work. It's so hard on them. :( :flower:

Sounds terrible for Lani and I hope she's soon feeling better...poor baby! I would worry if she didn't start drinking water soon or eating some wet food she may need an IV to keep her hydrated and parental feedings if she won't hardly eat. Sending good thoughts/prayers for Lani to improve ASAP

Thnaks, She is eating dry but only eats a little a time. We do sub q fluids when she gets dehydrated.

So sorry to hear about Lani.

You may have to risk the dental sooner than later. If the tooth/teeth are abscessed and causing her major non-eating problems, that is not going to improve with time. You may end up with a cat that is malnourished having to go under anesthesia, which is much harder on them. I had that conundrum with Emily -- she was old 15-16 years with problem kidneys, but bad teeth so she wouldn't eat. The not-eating IS fatal, the dental isn't fatal, so we opted for the dental the next day. (And she lived another 3 years!)

In the past, I have used (on me and cats) a homemade concoction for tooth problems, such as abscesses. Here's a link to a version of the recipe -- http://www.ehow.com/how_5102760_make-powerful-natural-mouthwash.html The one I use also had 1-2 drops of goldenseal. With cats, I use a q-tip and swab some hydrogen peroxide on the gum line, wait a 30 seconds, then swab some of this natural mouthwash on. Cats don't like it, but it will clear up small infections.

 Poor little Lani! She just continues to have her problems, poor baby. I just hope you and your vets can find something to help her. I remember when Dakota had to stay at the vets when he was on clavomax. Medicine can cause such trouble. :(
Hugs.

Thanks Linda. Lani is eating and maintaining her weight, she just won't eat canned and only eats small amounts of dry at a time plus she is not taking in fluids. We are going to do the dental but we have to get her stabilized from the Amox reaction so her body is capable of dealing with it, plus we need to wait to give her antibiotics so it will be probably in 1-2 weeks.
She doesn't have an abscess, they think she has what would amount to a bad cavity to us, it is called FORL.

Thank you for the link, I will check into that, it may help with the dogs too.
