Pretty sure of it...noticed her going in the box an awful lot. Watched her this morning and she went twice in 10 minutes and does not seem to get anything else. The vet wants me to pick up the little pellets and keep her in a room until she pees and bring in a sample. So poor nanners has to be in solitary confinement :(. She's such a person cat so I hope she pees quick...

I just recently drifted her to solid gold dry food. And also started giving inova wet like 4-5 times
A week. They drink tons of water so I figured as long as I gave a good quality dry they would be ok...but I guess not?

Any advice? I hve Gordon in the house and I have been through this with a boy before...so I want to make sure I avoid this issue with him!

I'm so sorry Nanners has an UTI. :cry:I'm very glad you caught it early, since supposedly girl kittens don't frequently get it so even vets don't think about it. (Long, nasty vet story here, which still upsets me.)

While a cat that drinks lots of water is less likely to get an UTI, crystals and the accompanying infection still occur. With lots of water, the bad stuff (a technical phrase to be sure!) is washed out so the remaining bad stuff is at a level which doesn't cause problems. The level varies from cat to cat.

As for a high quality dry food, if a cat is prone to UTIs, then the cat will get an UTI even on prescription cat food. I had 2 cats do exactly that years ago. (Then they were switched to raw and never had a re-occurance. :D)

Hmm. Yeah this is the first time Nannerpuss has had one, Muffins has had them though...but has not had any problems for a while. I feel so bad for her she keeps going to the pan and nothing is happening. Got the little soaking pebbles from the vet so tonight hopefully she will pee in them. I will feel so bad locking her in the room by herself but I keep telling myself its better than leaving her overnight at the vet. She has been very anti vet ever since her spay, poor baby. :(

Yes, it's a lot better to isolated in a room at home than in a cage at the vet's with all those strange animals! Nanners will eventually thank you.

An alternative would be what a friend of mine does. She has trained her cats to pee and allow her to catch it in a cup! With a couple of my cats, I might be able to stick a test strip in the pee, but I can just see me trying to hold a cup under Isabel!!! THAT would just not be allowed.:evil:

Ok so John brought up the litterpan that we are going to use and we have not put anything in it because I am doing homework and havent set her up just yet in the room, was waiting till we went to bed. Well she has already gone in it...and I noticed a good amount of blood in the little bit of urine. My poor girl...I guess we will be back to the vet tomorrow.

Come to think of it, these darn cats for some reason...Gordon and Nanners...have been drinking out of the toilet bowl...could that have upset her system?? We keep the doors closed but sometimes forget.

As soon as I saw it she was back upstairs in the litterpan in the bedroom, she is just going from box to box to box. :?

I am sorry, I hate that. Sparky got them often as a kitten. We now have a protocol that works. Your vet most likey won't know about part of it but it works. One thing we do that is very helpful is at the first sign she gets sub q fluids, usually for several days, this flushes the bacteria and crystals faster. We use antibiotics, for her it is Baytril, she is allergic to Amox and a herb combination called Polyporous Combination. We use the herb for 2-4 weeks depending on how she does. It soothes the bladder and makes a big difference. Drinking out of the toilet may be exposing her to some bad bacteria. For Sparky it happens when she gets diarrhea and gets bacteria in the urinary track. Good luck and keep us posted, Sparky gets so bad she finally sleeps in the litterbox :(

I hope Nanners gets better very soon. A good way to help prevent UTIs is to give them a supplement called No FUS. It is not expensive and it has cranberry in it, which acidifies the urine and helps keep bugs at bay. My cats LOVE them.

Ok so as expected...vet is pushing thos urinary so rx dry food. I was on the phone with them and said wouldn't it be better if she got switched to a high quality wet food like inova...and the lady said no because the crystals she has are coming from the food. Now I just switche a couple weeks ago from wellness dry to solid gold...I havnt been giving inova wet on a regular basis yet.

What do you all think...rx diet really good or is it just the vet pushing their stuff on me?

Also I asked and they said it was oxelate crystals...in case that makes any difference.

It does make a difference, IMO I like the canned better than the special diet, they get more water which they need and somethimes the urinary diet causes an imbalance and the other kind of crystals. I just don't care for what is in the Vet diets.

I hope she gets feeling better soon poor girl.
