I had contacted Cheryl, at Chapelhouse Persian Rescue, concerning the little burned Persian boy and told her I decided on Frodo as a name. Cheryl's been sick for the last week or so, and today she sent an email:

I am distressed to say that sadly, the little burned guy was not able to be saved.

I was contacted by the vet a couple of days ago to say that he had had to be put to sleep as a major left-flank skin graft was not healing and had become badly infected. He had been seriously burned as you know, and it was always a little ‘touch and go’ as to how well he would do, but everyone including the vets was keen for him to have a fighting chance since the wounds did not appear to have affected him internally although the skin burns were very bad.

Initially the main wound was debrided, removing a layer of the burned flesh to allow for healing, but this was not very successful and a graft was undertaken – from there on, he slowly declined. I am told that the vet remains pleased we gave him a chance as there was nowhere else he could have obtained the funds, and he believed the young age of the kitten would mean a better healing than actually was the case. So we all tried and I am so, so grateful to everyone who gave so massively for this case.

RIP Little Frodo. Enjoy the sunshine and play with all the other kitties at the Bridge!!! Someday, I will meet you and give you a hug. :cat:
