Last Saturday we noticed that Smokeys eye was watering a lot, and he went off his food.
He was the same Sunday, his eye was very watery but not red or infected and otherwise looked ok.
I decided to keep a close watch on him and take him to the vet Monday if it didn't improve.
By Monday it dried up and I bathed some crusties away and some fur came away from the bottom lid, but all looked ok.
He was eating well.
This morning his eye was half closed and he kept shaking his head and grooming himself excessively, I thought one side of his face looked slightly swollen and I took him to the vet who shaved one side of his face and the pus and filth poured out, all over Smokey and the table, the vet just kept applying pressure to get it all out.
I can't believe I've spent hours this week cuddling him and stroking him, grooming him and I never noticed!
He's been given an antibiotic and a pain killer and hopefully it will heal ok.
We don't know what happened but think another cat must have attacked him in the garden.

Poor Smokey Joe .. my Vet says cats really hide pain well so they can have something going on for quite a time before giving off real signs that we might notice (other than vomiting and diarrhea). You were a very sharp kitty Mom I think and hopefully Smokey Joe will be feeling much better now his face is drained of the infectious material and he's on antibiotics. Hope he heals well  Maria and Alaska

POor Mr. Smokey Joe. I bet he feels SO much better having all of that infection drained out.

Please give him gentle hugs for us, we will keep you both in our prayers

Poor sweet boy. :( I'm so glad you got him to the vet. I hope he feels better quickly, Sheila. Give him a snug from me.
