My dearly beloved neighbour R passed away last week. Close neighbours for over 10 years. She saw me through my own fight with breast cancer, then she was diagnosed with cancer, untreatable and inoperable. She was only 75 and was very motherly to me.
R was the one who got me interested in Persians. She had a black, then a beautiful silver.
Dh and I took some muffins to her husband today and had a visit. I made sure to sit on the floor with Misty, her silver Persian. She was so sad looking and depressed, she barely lifted her head. I talked softly to her and rubbed between her eyes. R had groomed her daily, bathed her monthly and treated her like the princess she is.
She greatly missed by her husband, children and grandchildren and her Silver Persian Misty.
hugs everyone,
Paula

I felt particularly sad when you described how upset the kitty was. I told my husband if anything ever happens to me...don't sit around being sad...just make sure my cats are happy!!!!

Paula, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. (((HUG)))
What is going to happen to Misty? I've seen a number of Persians end-up in shelters because the remaining spouse can't or won't care for the cat. (Heck, I worry about that for my cats.) I also know that depressed cats do stop eating, so please make sure she's eating.

R was truly an amazing woman. She knew her cancer was terminal and she had a few months to show her dh how to groom Misty, how to plant the garden, etc, etc. They were retired together, never travelled, just loved their home and yard. Her dh is in LOVE with Misty and I know she will keep him good company and that he will look after her. They have two daughters about my age, both of which have Persians and live near by. I am serious. This whole family are Persian cat lovers.
R had many life lessons to teach me. She was beautiful even when faced with her own demise. She called all her friends and told them what she appreciated about them and said goodbye to them all. I too got such a phone call. She wasn't angry and said she had a good life. OMG it makes me cry how truly gracious she was.
sigh!
Jen, I can only hope to outlive our cats. But I do know that my dh would make sure our cats were well looked after.
Thanks for listening to me everyone.

Paula, I am truly sorry for your loss. Your friend must have
been a very wise woman, she will be missed.
Those who announce that animals do not grieve have
never really loved a pet, they certainly do grieve, for
each other and for their people.
Hugs,
Mary
