Took Talia to the vet today....she has.....a hole in heart...fever...URI...eye infection...tape worm...and is underweight. But is all up to date on her shots....poor little girl is curled up on her new blanket resting comfortably...just as soon as she is better she will be getting spayed.....I hope she don't hate me after all of this....

I'm so sorry to hear Talia has such a long list of problems. With one exception, given time and good care, she should recover quite well.

The one that bothers me is the hole in her heart. I've had two cats diagnosed with "severe murmurs." The first one lived another 8 years and not one vet after the diagnosis could hear the murmur. The second was Maggie and her heart problem was totally ruled out by an ultrasound. So, when I hear a vet diagnose heart problems, I begin to get suspicious. My question is how did your vet determine she had a hole? Was it by ultrasound?

As for her hating you, she won't. Not today -- maybe after you have medicated her for a few days. ;)Just kidding.

no ultra sound...she listened to her heart told me she had a strong murmur....said she was probably born with it and chances where it would heal itself.....I am glad you told me that....let's see what she has to say when I take her back in next month to be spayed...

it sounds like she has found the perfect mommy to see her through all of this. When she feels better, then maybe the vet can tell more about her heart murmer.. Thank you for loving this sweet kitty.

If she truley does have a hole in her heart...wouldn't it be bad for them to put her to sleep for the surgery? I have read this somewhere....I am a little worried now.

I too had a cat that they said had a murmur, or maybe it was a dog, my dementia seems to be acting up :oops:Anyhoo, only one vet heard it, no else could ever do so. Maybe before you have anything done you could have further testing so you know what you are dealing with. I am glad she has found her way to you. As for hating you, maybe, till it's dinner time. :D

It is Sunday and I can see her gums, inside her ears and her skin starting to pink up....it was not before. when I woke up this morning she was sitting on a chair looking out the window....Yeah!!!!! She is not running and hiding everytime I walk past her now. still not gaining any weight though....And I know it has only been 2 days...I just want her to be better. Thanks for caring.

If the severe murmur is an actual hole in the heart, yes, anesthetic (especially injectable) can be dangerous. If the murmur is caused by faulty valves, then it's less dangerous. The main thing is the murmur needs to be more carefully and fully diagnosed before any surgery is done.

The surgery is spaying, which is not a life and death matter. If she was my cat, I would hold off on the spaying, fix her other issues, get her fattened up, and get this murmur investigated before I would consider spaying her. The spaying needs to be done, but not without knowing all the factors involved.

As for gaining weight, what does she weigh now? How much should she weigh? And what are you feeding her? (And yes, 2 days is a bit short to see much change. ;))
