not a good idea, if you do feed your cats this, put it on reserve, the last time there was recalls, they said only the dog food, weeks later, it was cat food, more cat food than dog food. the most important factor is the area it was made in and the factory's. Anything made in those factory will be infected.. including the workers if they do not wash their hands well. I use to do state food inspection. Let me just say, even if it is one can, that is one can to many.. when we inspect food, we pull 4 cans or bags, off the line every hour. That means at least a thousand or more have gone through. Then we check it again in the lab. When we find something it means we have to trace it all back and put all the pallets on hold and test each pallet, again we only pull off approx 10 cans, on occasions we had to go to stores to pull it off the shelf. So if there is any kind of recall. it is not worth the chance to feed it to your pets until a month later to make sure they do not find it else where. Bluie got Samonlea from Royal CAnin Kitten food, chicken, IV's for three days, they never did recall it even though they tested her food their self and our vet. thanks for the info

Not true -- anything will have the potential to be infected, but that is a huge step to being infected.

I too used to work in food safety, but at the federal level and looking at both the efficacy in sampling/safety and economic implications of food recalls. Most food recalls are driven by legal concerns and not data. Most recalls are ineffective. Most recalls are for strains of bacteria that would cause no problems in 99.9% of exposures and only very mild symptoms in most of the remainder.

I'm only trying to bring a bit of rational thought here. If a person doesn't like the potential risk (even so small), then don't feed it. But the facts are just because one type of food is recalled does not equate to ANY and ALL the recalled food will kill your pet.

I agree Lynda, but I regulated state inspection, over seeing the factory, and since you worked safety you know , you can never bee 100 per cent, I am not sure about your state. You can never be sure all your workers are following safty codes.. If you are a worker and have cuts , don't use your gloves, touch the food and then touch something else, put your hands in your mouth, there is always a potentinal for self contamination.
When a problem is found, the factories fight the state every step of the way because it is time and money. As we learn in nursing one ounce of protection is worth the danger of infection.. I guess it is a personal choice.. but hopefully you never see your pet sick from food poisoning as I have and my daughter, who all most lost her kitten. sorry, I am just anal

Oh Pat -- I'm not shocked that RC didn't take any responsibility for their food being bad -- not at all!! When 9 of my 11 cats got sick on RC Persian and RC Special 33...I was told by RC that their food was intended for healthy cats! Wow was I offended as was my vet! I no longer feed RC and will never feed it again.

This TOTW recall showed up on a Cornish list I am a member of last night and got my attention. I checked my food bags and both expire in Nov of 2012...and one bag is March of 2012 but doesn't have an X in the 11th place of the 2 or 3 in 9th or 10th place...so I feel ok. BUT with that said...I may have to investigate switching foods again but have to admit I really am afraid to. Innova worked great for us but I don't want to go back to that with the P&G purchase. Have to start giving it some thought because I HATE to switch foods!!!!!

For now we have 3 total bags and all are best before Nov 2012...the one in the bin right now is March 2012 -- but as I said doesn't fit the batch numbers they are concerned about and so far everyone seems ok.

What to do, what to do????

OMG I need to keep up with the posts! Busy at work and haven't been on in a little while. I bought TOTW last month and tried to switch Zoe and Phoebe over from RC. Then I posted in mid April that Zoe was having a soft Poo mixed with a little blood..I switched her right back to the RC..Now I wonder if the TOTW was bad. I might have to rush home and check the bag...of course I haven't thrown it away yet!
