I brought Michelangelo home October 16.

I started to develop swollen eyelids beginning of November. They are getting worst. Allergy meds do not seem to help. Eyes are most swollen in the morning and then by nighttime, seem to be OK, not normal, but OK. Then I wake up the next morning and it starts all over again.

Now remember he had Feline Chlamydia. I went to the walk in clinic and got antibiotic eye cream. That didn't seem to improve anything. I did get new stupid corn cat litter, which I hate and will get rid of today. So that could be it.

I am making a concerted effort to wash my hands every time I handle him. I am willing to wait out his kitten stage.

I am NOT allergic to cats or anything else for that matter. But I know one can develop allergies later in life. I am 47. sigh.

I am going to the walk in again today and see if my own doctor can help me.
I just want one of you to say, No, that is not a typical allergy reaction.

Please tell me it is not Michelangelo.
He is too damned cute to be alergic to.....

GREAT BIG DRAMATIC THROW DOWN CRY.
I just got back from my doc, who just happened to be at the walk in clinic today. She thinks I AM experienceing an allergy to my Michelangelo.

She gave me a prescription for prednisone. I talked to my pharmacist and he gave me a recommendation to see a specialist to get, I can't think of the word, used to, or acclimated to Michelangelo.

This is so stupid. I have never had any allergies in my LIFE!

I dont' care if I look like a monster for a year. (swollen upper and lower eyelids)
I AM NOT GIVING HIM UP.
Nuther big throw down dramatic cry.

OMG!!! :oI'm so sorry for you!!! I would still hold out some hope that it's the corn-based litter, though. Fingers crossed for you!

Desensitized may be the word you are looking for.

One thing I have heard about cat allergies is that most people are actually allergic to a protein in their saliva, and not actually the hair. When a cat licks itself, the saliva dries on the fur and then is flaked off, either by itself or on the hair. This is why people that are extremely sensitive to cats can still have problems with the bald sphinxes -- those cats still groom but not as much as other cats. The same source recommended bathing cats weekly to cut down on the amount of dried saliva on the cat hair. If it is Michelangelo, you might want to look into this and an air filtration system.

Awww, I'm so sorry you may be allergic to the little guy :(
I'm somewhat allergic also..I get the very itchy eyes following
a grooming of Dolly. But it usually settles down if I take a Benadryll.

I'd suggest you make your bedroom off limits to Michelangelo.
I know everyone loves to sleep with thier cats...but if you are allergic,
you need a fur free place to be able to spend some hours of the day.

Did you mention to your doctor that he had Chlamydia?
In that link to the article I posted in one of your threads, it said people can catch it from a cat, although it was extremely rare....
Maybe you are one of the rare ones... :o
Go back to the thread and read that link....and maybe pass on that info to your doctor if you haven't already.
I'm not sure what they said how to cure it in humans...

Purrs,
Joan

Yes Linda, desensitized. Paula
And thank you Joan, I went to the vet a week ago and the doc at the walk-in then gave me an antibiotic eye cream, but then he said beware of the 3 K's of allergies. Kats, Karpets and Kurtains...... he gave me the anitbiotic cream because I requested it in case it was the Clamydia. sigh, so now my own doc is saying allergy.

I just can't even believe it since I have had cats all my life and 3 kittens all at once 4 years ago.

I just cleaned out the friggen corn cob litter, back to clay. I will start my prednisone tomorrow and it will clear, and I won't know if it was Michelangelo or the corn cob litter.....

And thanks for mentionging that you too have slight allergies. Cause I ain't giving up my daughter's kitten. :)

Paula, we all know Michelangelo is NOT your daughter's kitten. ;)If she wants to think that, we'll let it be our little secret.

If this makes you feel better, I never have allergies and corn litter sent me into a tailspin -- itchy eyes, swollen lids, and enough sneezes to boost a rocket off the launchpad. It also took more than a week after I tossed it - the darn stuff has a dust that stayed in the air until I mopped again and again. I hope you are just having the same thing! :flower:

I am betting the corn litter also. In the event is is kitty there is still hope. My youngest daughter was allergic as a child to the point that she would end up in the hospital. We had the shots to desensitize her and she is fine. We got her a Pesian kitten for Christmas in 1977 and she has had Persians ever since. She may still get a sniffle at times but that is it. What the allergist said is the problem is the dander, we used to have to cover her bedding in plastic so it could be cleaned and I had to vacuum a lot.

Jim also had allergies as a child, someone had to sleep with him because he would turn blue and need an inhaler. He was so allergic to bananas that he was told if he ever ate another one he could die :shock:He had the shots and he has a banana every morning for breakfast :D

Good luck.
