All joking aside. I did give my beautiful daugher Michelangelo, but something happens when you nurse a sick cat to health. You bond, don't you?

My poor daughter, 13, suffered a terrible loss this September. Her beautiful cat Bella died, unexpectedly and horribly. Bella followed Isabella around, knew she belonged to her, knew which room was hers and scratched at the door if it was closed. It was a truly sweet and tight bond between cat and girl.

Michelangelo was to replace Bella. He didn't fill the hole we all feel at Bella's loss, but he sure makes us laugh and keep us from sorrow. May he bring happiness back to her life and a long one at that.

In the meantime, he fills my heart too, with laughter and joy.
hugs to all
Paula

The beautiful thing about a beloved pet is that the memories are with us always. I know Michelangelo will bring new treasured memories to you and Isabella.

I developed allergies to cats (and about 348 other things) about 5 years ago. I have had cats all my life...and now I have 3 furry, bathing obsessed, dander producers :Dand, with the exception of a bad flare up here and there, live just fine.

I had to have surgery to remove polyps that grew due to untreated allergy attacks. Then I started the shots twice a week...but still had to have a second surgery. My specialist told me shots will work for about 1/3 of the people who get them.

I just had a bad allergy attack a couple weeks ago and have been looking into a lot of things..

Best thing to do is take something like Singulair (rx...really good but pricey), Zyrtec or Claritin daily (I use the Costco brand) to prevent allergies and get an electrostatic filter for your a/c and clean/change it once a month. Some have told me recently to put a u/v bulb in the coils of my a/c (found out one is already there...I just have to replace the bulb so I can post later if I really feel a difference or not) and vacuum vacuum vacuum! I recently got a canister and it is really easy to vacuum the furniture now (I actually tried the whole "not gonna let the cats on the bed" thing for about 8 hours ....Maddie wasn't having any of that nonsense ;))

All that said...I hope your reaction was just the corn and you won't have to deal with any of this again because allergies are THE PITS!!

Oh, one OTC allergy medication that I took this last time that worked really well is Chlor Trimeton!! This is not for daily use...only once you already are having a reaction.

Thanks Karen. I had tree teenagers here all day yesterday, eyeball roll. They were here working on a project. Today they are at school and I am vacuuming, mopping and vacuuming-mopping again.
I have Michelangleo in my peripheral vision and I am thinking of giving him a bath.....maybe when Isabella comes home.
Thanks for the advice. I took my second dose of Prednisone today, I hope that clears up the puffy eyelids.....sigh
sucks getting older doesn't it.
allerigies smallergies.

OMG I am almost 100% sure it is Michelangelo.
When in Maui, it cleared up, when I got back, it took a couple of days, but the puffy eyes came back.

I hate the thought of being allergic and my MIL is bugging me to give him away. There is no one on this earth I'd trust him with. I am hoping that neutering him will help, I have NEVER had any allergies in my life and this just makes me mad. Why?

I have read your posts over and over again wtih my hugly puffy eyes. I feel ugly and will try to get a specialist to give me shots to help. Fortunately I don't have any sinus or lung issues. I hope this too is a passing challenge.

The Allergy pill I am taking does nothing for the puffy eyes. I am washing my sheets and will make my bedroom off limits to the cats, previously their favorite place to sleep, our King size bed.
Sigh,
Any more advice or sympathy will be appreciated.
When I wear my reading glasses, it is harder to see my puffy eyes, so I wear them, bump around the house with all things 'far' blurry.
:(

Oh, Paula, I'm so sorry to here that it is Michelangelo. As you know, I'm into 'voodoo' medicine, but modes such as homeopathy often work well on allergies. Before I would consider shots (because I'm a needle-phobe!), I would visit either a homeopath or at least a holistic people doctor to see if there are alternatives.

Now, if you decide to get rid of him, my address is... (Hiding under my desk before she can throw something at me!) Seriously, it may take time, but I'm sure there will be a way for you to deal with the allergies AND keep Michelangelo.

(((HUGS))) from me, Maggie, and Isabel.

Paula, before you assume for sure it is Michelangelo, stop using all your eye shadows, vaseline, skin cream, or anything else that might come into contact with your eyelids. I had horrible puffy, painful eyelids for about two months, then I quit using vaseline to wipe off my eye shadow, and low and behold, it was immediately gone and never has come back. I have to be very careful with eye shadow still because it will make my eyelids break out.

I too am a little allergic to my cats, but not to a horrible extent. It was the eye shadow and vaseline that made my eyelids inflamed.

Stopped wearing make up for weeks. The only other thing I can think of is my feather pillows. I can try to get rid of those, the corn litter is long gone. My beautiful Michleangleo is sitting right in front of me right now, sleepign on the computer table. He likes to be right next to whatever I am doing.

I have to find some relief for my worst than ever eyes. Because I could never stomach giving him away.

I will make an appointment with a naturopath today, right now. Getting phone.

Feathers are a huge allergen for some people. That's possibly a good idea to replace them.
