Well, when it comes to your question...all in the eye of beholder.
All cats are inherently majestic and regal, arent they? And all are beautiful in widely varying ways. :flower:

It sounds like you are wanting a "showy-type" cat... one that really stands out from most.
Certainly nothing wrong with seeking qualities you want ( or dont want) and narrowing it down to a specific breed.
Most of us have persians here... and that is why we have them.

The looks are just one facet of any pet, though. Personality traits and grooming requirments are equally important to be a succcessful match

With their sweet personalities and great beauty....persian cats are the most popular purbebred cat today:
But as mentioned.. they are "very" high-maintenence. A lot of people find this out after the fact, unfortunately.

If big, long-haired cats appeal to you, the Maine Coon and Ragdolls are both beautiful and extra-large - can reach up to 20 pounds, and are less heavy maintenence ( though combing is still needed)

The sleek elegance of some short haired breeds is stunning on the other hand.. and easier care.
The Russian Blue, The Oriental, Siamese, British and American Shorhair.. This list is endless really.
And each breed has specific traits in personality that may or may not be for you. Some cats are very vocal and active, others quiet and low key. Important considerations.

So, that's where the advice to research the cat breeds is bang on in finding the ideal kitty companion best suited for your tastes and lifestyle. :paw:

A rescue cat is a fabulous idea too. I've fallen in love with so many kitties that were not only drop-dead gorgeous, but in dire need of a home too.
A win-win situation to go this route.. :flower: :paw:

Research is your best way of finding the type of cat you want. Do you have experience with cats? If not a high maintenance cat like Persians might not be the best option for you. They require A LOT of grooming as the others have said. I disagree that they are more prone to health problems than other breeds though. The Maine Coon breed deals with HCM, Abbys with kidney issues, Burmese sometimes deal with cherry eye, and the list goes on. Even Domestics have health issues from time to time. Vet care is not cheap - that is also something to consider. No matter what breed you decide on make sure you get written health guarantee from the breeder. If a Persian is your choice get a DNA Polycystic Kidney Disease test done or a copy of the DNA PKD test for the parents - you want both parents to be negative for PKD. My suggestion, hard as it may be to do, is not to fall for the first kitten or cat you look at. Take your time. I like the idea of going to cat shows. You can meet the breeders, see how the cats handle strange situations, and some breeders even have kittens or cats for sale at the shows.
As far as personality goes I love the Persian. Sweet, gentle (except my Maggie when you try to comb her!), lovable couch potatoes. Russian Blues tend to be quiet and shy around new people and are not exceptionally good with small children from what I have read. Abbys and Turkish Angoras are the Border Collie of the feline world it seems - they have to be busy. The slinkies like Oriental and the Siamese are talkative and inquisitive. An acquaintance of mine breeds Siberians and Turkish Angoras. The Siberians are beautiful. I don't know much about the wild looking cats like the Bengals because the association that I show my cats in doesn't accept breeds developed from a wild cat.
One place to start looking might be the book put out by the CFA called 'The Cat Fanciers' Association Complete Cat Book'. It has all the breeds accepted in CFA for registration and a bit about personality of each breed. For me though, silver and golden Persians are the BEST - although I wouldn't mind having one of each color!

All good advice. But like Kira my question is why do you want a cat ? I would be asking very different questions, it does not sound like you want a cat because you love cats and want to share your home with them, but are more interested in appearance than anything. Sorry, but all cats are majestic, beautiful creatures, and they all deserve a home filled with love, even when they do things to drive you nuts, or get sick and cost you your last dime.

So not to be rude...but you want something that someone would say "OMG, what a beautiful cat! Where did you get it?"

Yes. Exactly. I kind of think of it like a cat is a cat. I am sure personality-wise, I am going to like one as much as the other. I want something that is exotic and impresses visitors. I meant why not if I am going to have one. My sister has a really gorgeous abyssinian that may kind of turn heads. I had a Maine-Coon once that was pretty cool. Maybe I need a Lynx!!! That would turn some heads. Oh, and the reason I want a cat, well... I've always had cats growing up. I love animals. I just want one that is kind of unique this time around.
