With 8 cats in the herd, we obviously go through a lot of cat food here at the cat ranch.
Even small increases in the price of cat food makes a significant impact to the monthly feed budget. Fancy Feast is our canned food staple here at the cat ranch. We go through 6-7 cans a day. So, during our bi-weekly trip to Santa Fe for supplies, I was dismayed to find that the price of Fancy Feast had risen 6 cents a can at Petsmart and 4 cents per can at Wal-Marts since the last trip  :o .

I am afraid that I'm going to have to call a family meeting with the herd tonight and lay down the law that they are going to have to eat all the food I put down for them  and I'm going to have to pay more attention to which flavors they eat best :? :)

I agree.. good luck! I used to feed my old cat, Toby, Fancy Feast. I always said I should've bought stock in FF since he ate so much of it.

Yeah good luck with that talk! I would love to be a fly on the wall hearing the cats and understanding what they are telling you...LOL

Canned food isn't cheap that is for sure! Mine are plowing through about 2 10oz cans a day of the Weruva but had to slow them all down yesterday because before 2 cans no one was getting sick but yesterday, Fair and someone else tossed all chicken up! NOT GOOD!!!

I went to Petsmart this weekend and their small cans of Authority (which is a better quality food really than the Friskies, etc etc brands) was on clearance for 27 cents a can (3 oz cans). I bought all 49.

Ingredients: Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Oean Fish, Brewers Rice, Dried Egg Product, Guar Gum, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Brewers Dried Yeast, Vitamins (Vitamin E, A, D3, B12 Supplements, Thiamine, Mononitrate, Niacin, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, (Folic Acid, Biotin), Minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Proteinate, Manganous Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Selenite), Choline Chloride, Taurine

It contains no by-products also. The larger cans (5.5 or 6 oz .. can't remember) are currently 85 cents a can, which would make it 42 cents for the 3 oz portion. If Fancy Feast is in 3 oz cans, wouldn't that save about 20 cents per 3 oz serving?

I feed a combination of Authority and Innova mainly and will sometimes pick up a few cans from other brands here and there for interest, since my cat doesn't really prefer pate and that's what most of the mid-higher end cat foods seem to be going to unless you buy the really expensive (and small can) varieties that I just can't afford. I'm still going through large cans of Authority that were clearanced at 57 cents a can (they were getting rid of that particular flavor). Pretty much every week, I snoop the end caps at Petsmart to see if anything else has been put on clearance that I might want! :)

I did that once -- bought a bunch of canned food on clearance. The cats loved the food. The store, however, stopped carrying it so the only way to get it was drive 2 hours to the next nearest store. :( (This was before the internet -- yes, back in the dark ages! 8-) ) Eventually, the cats loved another brand.

Coupons Joe.

LOL you make it sound like you have to hitch up the wagon and head into town for supplies.

Do you have more than one Petsmart you can shop at? I have several. The one in the posh suburb NEVER has fancy feast on sale, but the petsmart in a more middle class suburb does a couple times a month. I find that interesting.
